Project Spotlight
Initiated: 2018
Investment: $12,848 grant to upstart a nearly 20-acre farm, and to rent a processing and storage facility, to focus on value addition.
Community Info: 22 female leaders and their families
Key Community Wins: The community of Buyenje has complete control over the entire supply chain, from crop production to value addition to sale and distribution of the end product. As of 2020, the processing facility has created 17 brand new, well-paying jobs [and rising] that start at 2-3 times their old incomes [and rising]. During the pandemic and subsequent shutdown, much of the non-perishable food that was purchased and distributed to our Partner Communities as emergency food relief was in fact made by the communities themselves.

Investment: Recurring grants that cover 100% of the costs to attend Primary School on a trimester basis
Students Affected: 242 enrolled in Primary School
Key Community Wins: In this specific region, the prohibitive cost of school fees can lead to dropout rates as high as 80% by Primary 7 (roughly equivalent to 7th grade). As members of this program, the number of dropouts due to lack of fees plummets to 0% in our Partner Communities! Headmasters and teachers alike know that simply having students attend classes is merely the beginning, and in the coming months and years will begin to address the curriculum at large with teacher trainings and by instituting reforms where necessary to the learning programs themselves.
